Drawing Challenge :: My favourite object

I dont think it should have been this hard to choose one objects above all others as ones favourite.
I had to really examine the criteria I would use to help me decide.

So I settled on these 3 questions:
1. What object have you kept close by you for more than 5 years? (that got the numbers down)
2. What object do you have emotional attachment too? (reduced it down to 3)
3. What object has aesthetic appeal as well as the above? (finally the one!)

My clay horse

This is a clay horse my daughter made for me when she was 7. She is now in her 20's and this little horse has travelled with me through many houses, relationships, across the sea and back again. It has a special travelling box an old bakers flour box filled with shredded paper and a sign that says "fragile be careful!". If it has to be moved it goes in the special moving box that sits on my lap that noone else is allowed to carry.
My husband knows he can look at it but not touch it. Ridiculous right? even as I write this I think its ridiculous but it really would break my heart if it got broken. I just love the restful pose and muscled form, and the bisqued clay not only because my daughter made it for me but because I really enjoy looking at it and it sits on my mantlepiece where I can see it.

If you would like to see what other favourite objects have made their way into this challenge just follow the links below.

your precious clay horse looks stunning, indeed not just for sentimental reasons. it is looking primitively impressive.

as i browse through your three criteria, i am surprised to read my stippling obsession classifies. not an object per se, perhaps a compulsive response, it is my all time favourite action. ..
besides that, my favourite anything tomorrow might be something else entirely.
i have loved playing!

Just popped over from Carole Reid's blog to enjoy your very creative blog. Love our drawing challenges. The criterion for your favorite object made me stop and think about what mine would be...still thinking!

Hi Helen, I can understand why it's your favourite object and also why you're so carefull with it. If you look at my favourite object: no one is allowed to touch it either... I didn't write that, that's just a fact for you;-) I understand you completely!

Dear Helen, the comment i left telling you i would like to join in, seemed to have disappeared :)

That clay horse, beautiful in it's primitive style and precious because the connection, looks so fragile and very touching.

The objects we cherish are usually not made of expensive materials but the memories they hold are so valuable, xx

Helen that precious art piece by your daughter is just so special hey? What a perfectly sincere piece of art this is. Lucky you!! Do you have it framed?
That watch is one of the nicest I've seen. Do you have a fob for it? Do you use it? I'd be afraid to in case I dropped it or lost it somehow. What a great object this is. Well this whole theme was so enjoyable for me. Just figuring out what I wanted to post was fun. Thanks for this great time, friend! *smiles* Norma

hello hello!

Okay Ive updated the links list those that are active have posted their challege response those which are not active we are still waiting on.

Im off to the footy this afternoon for a much needed break so will check again when I get home this evening.

It has been absolutely amazing to see all the different favourites that we all have. I did suspect that since we display such diversity in our artwork this would not be any different.
Have a lovely day everyone
Go Port Adelaide!!!! (my team couldnt help myself ;))

Love your horse, so cute, and I can quite understand your wish to keep it safe forever! I know my mum kept some of my first clay attemps, too, and I'm glad she did! Not ridiculous at all!

I'm happy I managed to participate, too, so you may put me on your list. I didn't tell before, 'cause I wasn't sure to find the time.

Thanks for this lovely and interesting theme!

Best wishes

Dear Helen,

I am so sorry, but I had a busy weekend with some chaos and I did not manage to participate.
Would you please count me out?
It is an interesting challenge theme and at least I am thinking about a lot.

Hope you have/had fun!
x Stefanie

Not to worry there is always next week!
So who would like to host next weeks challenge if you have any ideas that you think would make a great challenge theme pop over to Arianes
blog and leave her a comment or send her an email and she will add you to the list.
Its a while lot of fun seeing your idea interpreted in so many ways and not a lot of extra effort to host either.
So come on everyone put those thinking caps on :)

Helen :)

PS: a big thanks to everyone for participating in my challenge!
